Seriously... one night the Red Sox score 1 run in 14 innings.

The next they score 13 runs.

Seriously, why not take one of those runs from tonight and score it in the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th or 13th last night?

Ah well, I guess I am being greedy.

When the Sox were down 2-0, 4-2 and 7-5, I thought "Oh man. They are going to LOSE a series to the Royals."

Then the bats woke up and we are all better for it.

Let me put it on the record right here and now:
I want Pedroia batting clean up EVERY NIGHT! It's perfect. Seriously getting him to hit behind Gonzalez and before Ortiz? It is inspired.

Josh Beckett threw a damn masterpiece.
So did Jeff Niemann.

OK Pirates... knock it off

Seriously, I want you to have a winning season and stop all the talk about Francisco Cabrera. But not at the RED SOX expense!

How did this happen? The Red Sox beat up the Yankees to go into first place but then lose a series to the Pirates to fall OUT of first place?

A bad inning by Wakes... an error by Pedroia and a lot of solo homers but not a lot of production with men on base.

And here we are.

I'm not happy about it.

So I take it Pedroia is OK

I am such a pessimist when it comes to injuries.

Whenever I see someone carried off the field, I automatically think "Oh no... their career might be over."

I know that was what I thought about Dustin Pedroia, especially after all the time he missed LAST year.

Well, I guess I was off. Instead of missing the rest of his career, he missed one game and homered in his first at bat back.

I guess people should be glad I am not in the medical field.

Either way, anytime my team can go into the home of the team with the best record in the league and take 2 of 3 (especially after losing the first one in teeth grinding fashion) I am fine with it.

And living in California made it especially sweet. With the Red Sox first inning explosion, I saw my team were up 7-0 before it was 9:15 AM. Not a bad cup of joe.

The Sox are 1 game back in the loss column from the Yankees.
Let's hope they can get into first by June.

And let's not have any more career threatening injuries.

But they've all done the hard part of having great individual seasons and post season heroics already. If they can stay healthy and pile up some numbers, they should have quite a Hall of Fame argument.

Oh for Christsake, just shut Dustin Pedroia down for the year

Seriously... we all are impressed by how fast Pedroia came back. He's a gamer. We love him. He's our guy.

Now take away his spikes and say "See you in spring training."

He's back on the Disabled List after 2 games off of it.

And yes, it is because the same foot is hurt.

This is nuts. Why risk injuring our MVP any further?

2010 is a lost cause. Even if the Sox play better than their current pace and win 92 or 93 games, they are still playing golf on the first full week of October.

As I wrote before, 2011 looks promising provided Pedroia and Youk is healthy, Beckett pitches well and they let some of the kids play and fill some holes.

Let's see what this kid Yamaico Navarro can do in the infield. He's supposedly a dynamic fielder. Let's see his do his thing in the show.

He's already the greatest Red Sox player named Yamaico.

So Dustin... nobody is questioning your heart. We're questioning your foot.

And if the Red Sox don't shut him down, I'll be questioning their sanity!

Can the Mariners take advantage of the Phillies and Red Sox misfortune?

As Jeff Passan pointed out in his column, both the Phillies and the Red Sox have gaping holes at second base and in their clubhouses with the losses of Chase Utley and Dustin Pedroia.

They have lost some spark, some intangibles and in many ways the heart and soul of their teams for the time being. And the Phillies and Red Sox each have big expectations this year and can't afford to fall to far off the pace.

And as anyone can tell you, there is no better time to take advantage of someone then when they have had a little misfortune.

Which brings us to the Mariners.

The little team that could have but didn't is going to unload Cliff Lee soon and make a contender happy.

But what about Chone Figgins?

He's got 3 years and $27 million left on his contract and could fill in at second base.
Granted he's having a lousy year in Seattle... but SEATTLE is having a lousy year and maybe it is rubbing off on him.

Perhaps going to a winning team and feeling reenergized is what he needs to do.

Maybe they can convince teams "He's bound to have a better second half, and wouldn't it be better if he has a better second half with YOU?"

Either way this is a guy who finished in the top 10 if the AL MVP vote in 2009. He is a switch hitter with a lot of speed and post season experience.

If Pedroia or Utley come back from their injury, he can fill in to another spot on the infield or outfield with ease.

And if he gets the spark back and fits like a glove with his new team, he will be under contract for the next few seasons.

I'm not saying it is GOING to happen... but it would behoove the Mariners to see if they'll go along.

That's damn near impossible to do... but the Red Sox did it.
The Giants couldn't have made this easier for the Red Sox to win if they started putting the ball o a Tee.

Brian Wilson was pitching as if gamblers paid him off to blow the save.

And yet the Red Sox could only muster the three run homer by Youk and the run Youk scored in the 9th after his triple.

Possibly the stupidest win of the year.

I completely gave up on the game 2 times.

I completely thought the game was in the bag 2 times.

Dice-K was terrible... until he settled down.

The offense was amazing all night and Pedroia made everyone wonder if the humidor was busted.

When the bullpen averages 3 base runners an inning and nearly 2 runs an inning, and the team WINS... then you've dodged some SERIOUS bullets.

The last time I saw anyone avoid being shot by that many bullets, it was in Pulp Fiction when Vincent and Jules weren't hit by the kid firing the gun at them and Jules was convinced it was a miracle.

Papelbon got the win... wow. He better buy Pedroia a nice dinner in San Francisco this weekend.

April 25 - 7-6 loss to Baltimore. (The Sox blow a 4-1 lead, leave the winning run on second in the 9th, let up 3 in the 10th and could only score 2 in the bottom of the 10th)
April 30 - 5-4 loss in Baltimore. (Tejada ties the game with a 2 out 8th inning homer and wins it with a bloop in the 10th)
May 1 - 12-9 loss in Baltimore. (Dice-K and Wakes get pounded, wasting 2 homers from Ortiz and an early 4-1 lead.)
May 2 - 3-2 loss in Baltimore. (Varitek is thrown at home trying to score with 2 outs in the 8th. Sox get swept in the 10th.
May 12 - 3-2 loss against the Blue Jays. (The Sox rally in the 9th comes up a run short and Kevin Gregg gets an ugly save.)
May 15 - 7-6 loss in Detroit. (The Sox blow a 6-1 lead and lose it on a 2 out bases loaded walk in the 12th.)
May 17 - 11-9 loss in New York. (The Sox come all the way back from a 5-0 first inning hole to take a 9-7 lead in the 9th... but Papelbon lets up a 2 run game tying shot to A-Rod and a 2 run walk off shot to Marcus Thames.)
May 21 - 5-1 loss in Philadelphia. (Big Papi's bid for a game tying 9th inning grand slam is caught at the warning track.)
May 27 - 4-3 loss to Kansas City. (Dice-K walks the go ahead run in and lets another score on a wild pitch as the Royals no name bullpen shut down the Hot Sox.)
May 28 - 12-5 loss to Kansas City. (Sox blow a 3-0 first inning lead to be blown out in Fenway.)
June 3 - 9-8 loss to Oakland. (Sox lose a slugfest where two Boston runners are thrown out at home.)

June 6 - 4-3 loss in Baltimore. (Sox rally to tie the game in the 9th only to lose it on a small ball rally in the 11th.)

June 10 - 8-7 loss in Cleveland. (Sox blow an early 5-0 lead and then after rallying in the 9th to take the lead coughed it up with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th)
June 13 - 5-3 loss to Philadelphia. (Sox 9th inning rally comes up short)

June 22 - 2-1 loss in Colorado. (The Sox waste a solid Lester start and twice leave the bases loaded.)
June 23 - 8-6 loss in Colorado. (The Sox batter Ubaldo Jimenez around but Papelbon lets up 2 homers in the 9th to lose it.)
