Seriously... if you had told me that the Celtics were going to hold the Lakers to 83 points in their own building in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, I would have said the Celtics were a lock to the champs.
Instead the duck boats are in mothballs because they couldn't get their OWN offense going.
And lo and behold the very next night, Boston was taking on LA (much to the anger of opponents of interleague play) and the Red Sox offense was on fire.
Nothing like a 3 run first and a 7 run go ahead rally to make a game a no doubter. (Yeah I know it ended with a save for Daniel Bard... but this game was never in doubt.)
So take heart Sox fans. A day after the Celtics gave Boston fans the most heart breaking sports night since Grady left Pedro in for too long, the Red Sox won... again.
In fact for those of you just now turning to the Sox for the first time, keep this mind:
They started off badly, they've had key injuries, Beckett, Dice-K and Ellsbury are all on the DL, they are starting the Darnell McDonalds and Daniel Navas of the world and playing in a Division with the Yankees and Rays who each started the season on 100 win paces.
Well guess what? As of this writing there are only 3 teams with 41 wins: The Yankees, the Rays and the Red Sox.
That's right. Despite all the strife, the Red Sox are tied for the most wins in the bigs. They are on pace to win 96 games. And they are winning against GOOD teams.
Dress those wounds from the NBA playoffs and start watching the Red Sox... the team that by the end of this weekend could be (say it with me) THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL.
